THE Chief Judge of Oyo State, Munta Abimbola on Wednesday granted freedom to 32 inmates of the Agodi Custodian Centre of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Oyo State command, Ibadan.
The gesture was to promote discongestion of the facilities in the state.
Top judicial officers, judges, magistrate, non-governmental organisations, among others, were with the CJ as he freed the inmates.
The CJ said he was at the facility on the invitation of the custodian to look at how the cases of inmates especially those awaiting trial could be speedily dispensed with.
The CJ said the purpose of the visitation was to ensure speedy dispensation of justice, ensure the decongestion of the already overstretched facility and also ensure that justice is seen to have been manifestly done to all the parties concerned.
He revealed that the monitoring committee of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law will soon establish an ad hoc court to make the visitation to correctional facilities more frequent, thereby aiding the release of more inmates.
