How Tope Alabi’s dance split fans

A video of a popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi, dancing freakishly has, on Tuesday, surfaced on the internet.

In the viral clip, she was seen sweating as she imitates the dancing steps associated with one of the secular songs.

Alabi act, however, caused uproar among fans on social media as many believe that the gospel singer did not portray and reflect the message of her spiritual songs while she received a groundswell of support from some quarters.

“Anty Tope did you see your treading video, with white Versace top and pant, you really did fuck up,” a fan @femsy073 comments.  “Seeing that video made me believe you are not in any gospel line, Saint Janet is better than you because she has a line and pattern. Enough.”

Another Charity Omowunmi, posted: “It Is well.Let us keep praying for ourselves so the devil will not get us.”

“Her dance is seductive and its turning me on….God see what your anointed daughter is doing to your anointed son… Dear God, permission to fornicate please,” said spaggyy.

Also, @bshizzle70a opined that the video is the real Tope Alabi.

“Not the Tope Alabi you sanctimonious, hypocritical lot have created in your heads or the one she portrays through her spiricoco songs. Tope Alabi is a closeted Marlian, She came out of that closet there. The world will be a better place if only people can be allowed to be themselves. PS – No Almighty interferes in our lives, never mind the ‘edifying’ songs.”

Afrobeat singer, YQ, has a different opinion, according to him, gospel singer should be criticized for dancing.

“So an evangelist should not dance at all right?” he questioned. “If they must be criticized then y’all should help them search how David danced in the Bible o so they won’t dance like the human that they are. Na HEART God de see. Everybody na children of God.”

A fan @mrbreezeoflifee also support the motion, saying, “Even in the Bible, King David was a mad dancer, one time like that, he tore his cloth in front of his people to praise God! And God was pleased with him. Y’all don’t get to judge people how they praise their God!”

Upcoming artiste, Quepeller, linked the dance with that of Marlians,”She can dance to praise her lord, but it’s like she inside the spirit tho, MARLIAN spirit lets us be truthful, make we no lie. Evangelist gbese inside life hmmmmmm,” said the Aquila records act.

Alabi, reacting to the video, said the dance was just at her father’s burial party and she needed it at that particular time as she remains a spiritual person.

The spiritual singer asserted this, on Wednesday, during an interview with WakeUp Nigeria show on TVC.

She affirmed she was the one in the video and it recorded during her father’s burial ceremony.

“I needed that dance. It was at my father’s burial and the praise was organised by some gospel artists to just worship God. I needed to worship God, I just need to. It’s not easy to bury your father. Some people die before their parents. As a spiritual person, you know you need that dance,” she said.
