Kwara to EFCC: We’ll synergise to achieve your mandate

Kwara state government on Tuesday expressed its readiness to assist the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) achieve its mandate in the state.

State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Jawondo Salman said this when he led a delegation of the state Ministry of Justice on a visit to the Ilorin zonal office of the commission.

He hailed the commission for the huge recovery of monies for the state government.

The commissioner added that “I think the EFCC is wonderful. Let me appreciate you and this office on behalf of the state government for all the monies and properties, we have seen your achievements and they are commendable.”He said that “it is important that we are on the same page with the EFCC, we must relate as colleagues. I thought we should have this gathering, we’ll corporate with you to achieve your mandate, I want the EFCC to feel at home because we are going to make your job easier.”

Responding, EFCC head in the zone, Mr. Isyaku Sharu thanked the delegation, saying that the EFCC would continue to fight corruption in its efforts to sanitize the system.

“We must come together to salvage the system, that has been the mandate of the Commission, this country belongs to all of us.

“We told Governor of Kwara state Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq during the last Nigerian youth walk against corruption that we have recovered the sum of N200 million for the state government, as it is today, we have additional N20 million making it the total sum of N220 million ready for collection,” he said.

EFCC head added “we also have not less than seven properties and some exotic cars which have been finally forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria; these were recovered from both politicians and civil servants.”
