The Federal Government has been urged to, as a matter of urgency, declare a state of emergency on insecurity in the country now.

This became urgently imperative in view of the overwhelming atrocities, loss of properties the people have suffered and continue to suffer because of the nefarious activities of the  Boko  Haram, armed herdsmen and other dare-devil bandits in the country.

The government should also declare the armed herdsmen as terrorists’ group without delay.

These suggestions were made in Lagos by a renowned socio-political activist, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, in a statement on Friday.

Chief Onitiri lampooned the National Assembly for introducing a bill to create an agency for repentant Boko Haram terrorists who had been busy daily, killing and maiming defenceless Nigerians.

“There is no doubt that the most important duty of any responsible government is to secure lives and property of its citizens.  Any government that fails in this has woefully failed and have no basis to remain in government.

“If this Senate is a friend of the people, they should side with the people and not only look for how to protect them but declare bandits, Boko Haram and armed herdsmen as terrorist groups.

The call for an agency for terrorists, he said, is unheard of in any civilised society,”Chief  Onitiri said.
