Nigeria is at risk of population explosion if awareness and sensitisation about child spacing are not intensified in the urban and rural areas, the Challenge Initiative (TCI) has disclosed.

The TCI Technical Team Lead, Dr. Olusola Solanke, stated this during a three-day media advocacy training on family planning organised by The Challenge Initiative and Development Communications Network in Minna.

He said that currently, the national population has increased the rate of poverty in the country which is also causing a strain in food security.

In his address, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Idris, called on the people of Niger State to embrace child spacing in order to ensure good health of families for the overall development of the society.

He reiterated the support of the state government towards family planning-related issues, adding that it would bring down the maternal and child mortality rates in the state and nation.
