Lagos State lawmakers at the House of Assembly, National Assembly, the executive as well as state All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership have resolved to ensure that “Lagos is granted a special status it rightly deserves.”
That was part of the resolution arrived at, at the end of the 15th Executive/Legislative parley organised by the state government, which ended yesterday at Lekki.
The parley had in attendance lawmakers from the state in the House of Assembly and National Assembly, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as well as the state executive council (exco) members, APC leadership in the state and members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest political organ in the state.
It was also resolved that the executive should give due consideration to the compendium collated from constituency town hall meetings by members of the legislature for policy design and formulation.
“That the state government policies/reforms be properly propagated to all arms of the government.
“The executive is to entrench the doctrine of inclusive government by incorporating the party and legislature in the design of policies for ease of implementation,” etc.
Addressing reporters at the end of the parley, Governor Sanwo-Olu said: “It was two days of real engagement, idea sharing and various things put on the table. And it’s been two days of relationship and bond building between various levels of the government.”
He said the officials were on the same page with focus on delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
“Also we understood that we have different roles to play. Now we can complement everybody’s role and ensure that at the end of the day, we deliver the dividends of democracy to our people.
“We discussed with our House of Assembly members how we could foster our relationship. Advice was given by our National Assembly members on how to build a harmonious relationship between the legislature and the executive.
“And on the executive side, for them and us to understand what their demands are so that at the end of the day, proper and good governance will be delivered to our good citizens.
“The major take-away of the last two days is that we are lucky in Lagos because we have our political leadership that is in tune with us. They counsel and advise us from their own wealth of experience. Most of them have been at the helm, they offer useful advice that makes us have a good feedback from our citizens,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor said that they were also acquainted with what the communities expected from the government and their elected representatives and how they could reach out to the communities.
“From the legislative and executive side, we want our citizens to know that what the executive put forward is what they operate, and on the policies that have been initiated, we want to ensure that we are in a win-win situation. During the last two days, there were extensive negotiation and engagement,” he said.
