Fire on Thursday razed 16 shops at Oke-Popo, along Palace Square in Osogbo.
A shop owner, Lawal Sulaiman, who is also a generator merchant, said that the fire started from one of the shops and spread to 15 other shops, destroying belongings worth millions of Naira.
He said: “The fire started from a shop and spread to another shop. Before the arrival of firefighters, 16 shops had been razed. There was no casualty.”
Confirming the incident, the Administrative Officer of the Fire Service, Mr. Fatai Aremu, said: “We received a distress call about the inferno around 12:30am and dispatched our men to the scene of the fire.”
He added that the operatives battled the inferno for hours before they eventually put out the fire.
Aremu, however, confirmed that about 10 shops were razed.
He said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
