The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has said that it would, next Tuesday, display list of candidates vying for position of Chairman and councillors in the April 18 local government elections.

It said the candidates were from 13 political parties that indicated interest to contest in the local polls.

Chairman of ODIEC, Prof. Yoki Dinakin, stated this at a meeting with stakeholders in Akure.

Prof. Dinakin said 18 political parties picked forms to contest in the polls but only 13 submitted forms and presented candidates for screening.

Dinakin however said the Commission would continue to relate with 31 political parties to avoid legal backlash.

He said a letter has been sent to the office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kolawole Olawoye for legal advise and interpretation of the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that only registered political parties should participate in the election.

Parties that are fielding candidates for the Ondo local polls are Accord Party, African Action Congress, Action Alliance, Democratic Congress, Abundance Nigeria Renewal Party, All Progressives Congress, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Mega Party of Nigeria and Progressives Peoples Alliance.

Others are Social Democratic Party, Young Progressives Party and Youth Party.
