Ex-Air Force chief Amosu ‘collected N50m bribe from us’

From Tony Akowe, Abuja

A private property developer, Blue Boulevard, on Monday told the House of Representatives that former Chief of Air Staff Adesola Amosu allegedly collected N50million kick back from them through his personal account, while trying to develop the NAF Mami market in Port Harcourt.

The Managing Director of Blue Boulevard, Peter Osunde, told the House adhoc committee investigating the use of force by the Nigeria Air Force that the wife of the former Air Force chief allegedly kept coming back to collect money from them, while officers of the force allegedly collected  sums of money from them.

He alleged that at different occasions,  officials of NAF collected 20 thousand dollars, six million naira and other sums of money and tendered proof before the committee.

He said that the 2012 agreement was wrongly cancelled in 2014 and a new agreement was entered into in January 2015, adding that he had collected loan with N2.4 billion from First Bank alone and also collected loans from other creditors.

The managing director said that every new Chief of Air Staff that assumed offices had one reason or the order to alter the agreement or make fresh demands from the company.

He said the company entered into an agreement with the Air Force to develop the Mami market, adding that  the agreement was that the market, which is situated over 32 hectares of land, was to be managed by Blue Boulevard for 30 years so as to recover investment and make profit.

He said that the agreement also provided that there shall be no interference within the period either by NAF or any other body, adding that the Blue Boulevard was to take 70 per cent of output while 30 per cent goes to NAF.

“Between 2012 and 2017, there was a total of 21 invasion of the site by Air Force personnel, each invasion came with extortion,” he said.

Counsel to NAF Holding Company, Uche Duruibe, told the committee that the Blue Boulevard did not keep to the terms of agreement, accusing Blue Boulevard of not honouring meeting or taking phone calls aimed at getting him to give accounts of the project.

He said that NAF Holding Company had been very lenient with Blue Boulevard even when it could not deliver the project within the stipulated time, stressing that the company never paid any amount to his client which was in breach of the agreement as the company was to be paying 1.5 million naira as rent annually.
