From Osagie Otabor, Akure
Deji of Akure Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo has called on the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commissioner (ODIEC) to conduct credible polls that will be acceptable to the people.
Oba Aladetoyinbo also urged ODIEC to sensitise the people through the electronic media following the Coronavirus outbreak.
The monarch spoke when ODIEC members, led by its Chairman, Prof. Yomi Dinakin, visited his palace to intimate him about the local government elections.
Dinakin said the visit was part of the commission’s efforts to sensitise people on the importance of participating in local government elections. He reiterated that the election would hold on April 18 despite the Coronavirus outbreak.

ODIEC Commissioner in charge of Media and Publicity Rotimi Olorunfemi said hand washing bowls, sanitisers and gloves would be provided for the electorate.
The commission would also partner with the Ministry of Health to secure ad hoc workers and officials before, during and after the poll.
He said: “Electoral officials will only attend to 20 voters per time to align with government rules on health safety. Arrangements have been made to break training of ad hoc workers to manageable sizes in adherence to government directives.”
