Eko Catalyst, a group of politicians and technocrats, has donated a thousand carton of Indomie Noodles to Lagos State.
It said the donation would support the government’s palliative measures.
Eko Catalyst Chairman Otunba Stephen Ogundipe said the group was impressed with the government’s effort in ameliorating effects of the lockdown.
“We have been observing what the Lagos State government has been doing in managing fallouts of the Coronavirus. We decided to support the government. Lagos is trying hard to make things work. Those of us not in the government should assist the government. If people understand what is happening outside the country, we will be grateful to God that we have been able to contain the COVID-19,” he said.
Eko Catalyst Vice-Chairman Olusegun Idowu said the gesture was apt at this critical time.
“Most of us here, apart from being politicians, are technocrats. We have donated materials at our various constituencies. We decided to come together and donate a thousand cartons of noodles. The gesture of the governor to provide foodstuff for 200,000 Lagosians is laudable. We are here to support that lofty initiative,” Idowu said.
Chairman of its Health Committee Dr Tokunbo Onasanya appealed to Lagosians to adhere to the government’s directives.
Onasanya said: “It is important that people stay at home if they have nothing to do outside. Apart from that you should keep social distancing. We should avoid gathering where many people converge. All these measures are things to help us contain the spread of Coronavirus.”
Dr Onasanya warned against self-medication, saying it would do more harm than good.
“If you are not a trained medical doctor or you have not visited a health facility of government, it is absolutely wrong for you to take drugs not prescribed by physician. The best thing to do is to stay safe,” he said.
Omowunmi Ogbara, who is the group’s secretary, urged people to participate in the state’s House-to-House search initiative.
“If you have had contact with any of the index cases, kindly come out; you don’t need to be ashamed. You don’t need to be shy. This is to avoid spread of the virus,” she said.
