Group donates relief items to Epe

A group, Epe Club, has distributed foods and other relief items to vulnerable people in Epe Division, Lagos State, to cushion the effects of the lockdown triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The items were distributed to the downtrodden at Epe Central, Eredo Council, Ikosi-Ejirin Council, Ibeju-lekki local government and Ibeju-Lekki council.

The Club’s President, Chief Taoreed Fowosore, applauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his proper handling of the pandemic in Lagos State.

He said:”The Club had in recent times has been enjoying the support of Lagos State Government. We really appreciate his kind gestures during these trying times. He has really proven to be a good leader and a proactive leader indeed.”

Fowosere explained that the club targeted the vulnerable, the poor, and less privileged in the division for the empowerment programme in the spirit of the season.

He added:”We believe these food items will serve as palliatives to help cushion the effect of the lockdown, as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.

“We thank Lagos State Government for partnering with the club to execute the said project. The club is made up of intellectuals from diverse academic disciplines.

“Our membership is drawn from the two LGAs and three LCDAs within Epe community. Epe Club is a social group and a charitable organization, our charitable work is perceived to be a great service to humanity. We have a bursary programme designed for indigents of Epe in Tertiary Institution. We also have a social welfare programme designed to cater for unemployed youth within the community.

“We inculcate the basic tenets of hard work and making an honest living in the youths.”

The Vice President of the Club, Olayemi Dada, said:”We task our club members from the five communities in the division to identify the vulnerable and less privileged and ensure that the food items get to them.

“We expect our members to compile a comprehensive report of the activities within there zones and communities after the distribution exercise and get back to the club. “It is our sincere hope and intention that those food items get to those who truly need them, he said.  A member of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Wasiu Odeyemi, said: “Our club will not stop it’s charitable contributions to the people of Epe Division. We will continue after the COVID-19 pandemic.”
