The Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), former General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr. Dele Adesina (SAN) and others have expressed sadness at the death of the former Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Dr. Kole Abayomi.
Abayomi died in a London Hospital on April 4.
A statement signed by BOSAN Secretary, Mr. Seyi Sowemimo (SAN) said: “We deeply mourn the sad loss of our departed colleague and pray that the Almighty God grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss. Dr. Koleade Abayomi SAN was born on August 20, 1940, called to the Nigerian Bar in 1966 and admitted to the Inner Bar in 2005.
“He taught at the Nigerian Law School and rose to the position of Director-General. He retired in 2005 and went into private practice and consultancy in Lagos until his death. He is survived by his wife, children and great grandchildren” BOSAN stated.
Adesina also mourned Abayomi’s death.
The former former Law School D-G, he noted, died at the age of 79 years.

Adesina said: “His death is no doubt a big loss to the legal community and of course to his great family.
“Dr. Abayomi was a bouyant and a fantastic lecturer reputed for his imposing personality, erudition, skill and elegance.
“His dressing was always impeccable. As a lecturer and Director-General of the Law School, Dr. Abayomi was a role model. He held the ideals, values and virtues of the Legal Profession exceedingly high.
“As a man of peace, I recall very vividly that Dr. Abayomi (SAN) played a very worthy and prominent role of reconciliation among Yoruba lawyers as a member of the Committee of Chief Mrs. Priscillia Kuye, Past President of Nigerian Bar Association, during the NBA election in 2014.”
According to him, it is far better for one to build his reputation “on what is positive and to be known for what one stands for than what one stands against.”
“Dr. Kole Abayomi, SAN built his reputation on what was all the way positive such as proud parentage, sound legal education, high standard of legal practice, elegance, decorum and self-confidence. These qualities will remain indelible in our hearts” Adesina stated.
Similarly, Dr.Babatunde Ajibade (SAN) consoled legal community over Abayomi’s death.
“I commiserate with the Nigerian Law School and the professional legal education community in Nigeria on the demise of Chief (Dr.) Kole Abayomi (SAN), a former Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.
“Dr. Abayomi was a father figure to me. His son, Kayode, is one of my closest friends and I had the honour of being the bestman at his wedding.
“Dr. Abayomi was a charismatic character with plenty of swagger and there was never a dull moment when you were in his company.
“My heart goes out to his wife, Mama Kenke, to Kayode and his siblings and to his grandchildren. I pray that the Lord will grant repose to his soul and grant the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss” Ajibade stated.
