 AbdulGafar Alabelewe, Kaduna

YORUBA Council of Chiefs and Obas in the 19 Northern States and Abuja have joined others to mourn the former Attorney-General of the federation, Richard Akinjide and Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Malam Abba Kyari.

Chairman of the Council, Ambassador Muhammad Arigbabuwo, in a statement made available to the media in Kaduna yesterday, said the death of the duo was painful.

The monarchs said both Chief Akinjide and Malam Abba Kyari lived exemplary lives worthy of emulation, especially by the upcoming generation of lawyers and politicians.

Arigbabuwo added that, his thoughts and prayers were with the family of the late legal icon, the people and government of Oyo State, and members of the Nigerian judiciary.

He said it was to the credit of the late Chief Akinjide as Attorney General that Nigeria temporarily reversed the execution of armed robbers as well as abolished a decree banning those on exile from returning to the country.

On the late Kyari, the royal father said the late chief of staff steered the activities of the President office with the passion and integrity of a patriot who wished nothing but progress for his country and demanded nothing but decorum, care and respect for those who sought the attention of the President.

He condoled with President Muhammadu Buhari, praying that Allah grant him the “fortitude to bear this great loss”.
