The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on Thursday extended the temporary suspension of processing of Passports and Migrant e-Registration from 23rd April to 23rd May 2020.

The extension, it said, was endorsed by the Comptroller General of the Service, Muhammad Babandede, pursuant to the directive of the federal government on restrictions on International Flights and closure of land borders.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relation Officer of the NIS, Mr Sunday James, the Service acknowledged the efforts of the government to check the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.

It maintained that considering the success achieved so far and the need to ensure reduction in the spread of COVID-19, the Service considered it necessary to extend the temporary suspension of processing of Passports.

Meanwhile, Mr James noted that the NIS is taking advantage of the present situation to look into all pending passport cases and that the public would be informed when they are ready for collection at the expiration of the current lockdown.

It would be recalled that the NIS suspended procession of passports and migrant e-registration following the closure of land borders and restrictions on International Flights by the government to scale up the fight against COVID 19 in the country.
