An Abuja-based Educational and Charity Organisation, Nurul Yaqeen Islamic Foundation, has begun Iftar (Breaking of fast food) for 1,000 less privileged in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Director of the foundation, Imam Yahya Al-Yolawi, said this while addressing newsmen during the launch of the programme.
The aim of the programme, he said, was to put smiles on the faces of the vulnerable in Abuja.
Al-Yolawi, who is also the coordinator of the programme, said Prophet Muhammad encourages the Muslim ummah to feed a fasting person to maximise more rewards from the Lord.
The cleric also said the objective of sharing the food to the poor was to make life easier for them to observe Ramadan fast with less burden.
He used the occasion to call all Muslims to assist those in need, especially at this trying time of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a view to earn multiple reward from Allah.
According to him, even without COVID-19, Ramadan period is a time of giving more charity and succour to the needy.
Al-Yolawi appreciated individuals who donated in cash and in kind toward providing the food items to the needy.
Chairman of the feeding programme, Alhaji Sani Musa, said feeding the less privileged was not a new thing to the foundation.
He said with the scourge of COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation decided to distribute the food items and cash to the beneficiaries so that they can cook for themselves.
