Lagos Public Defender gets new Director

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has appointed Dr. Babajide Martins as Director, Lagos State Office of the Public Defender (OPD).

He succeeds Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi who has been appointed as the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the ministry

Martins holds an LLB from the University of Lagos, masters in Law from University of Leicester and doctorate in Law from Birbeck College, University of London.

Before his appointment, he was a Director in the Directorate of Public Prosecution, Lagos State Ministry of Justice.

According to a statement by the OPD’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr Mamud Hassan, Dr Martins pledged to improve efficiency and service delivery to the deprived and vulnerable members of the public.

“I enjoin members of the public to take full advantage of free legal services being provided by the Office of the Public Defender for indigent and vulnerable to protecting themselves against abuses, rights violation, violence against women and children and unlawful detention for bail-able offences,” Martins said.
