Lagos State House of Assembly is constitutionally empowered to investigate dredging activities within its intra-state waterways, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) has said.
He was responding to a petition by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Managing Director over a fact-finding seven-man committee set up by the House on dredging activities.
In a May 28 letter to NIWA MD, Onigbanjo said the control of intrastate waterways has been settled by a subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, delivered on July 18, 2017, on an appeal numbered CA/L/886/2014.
