Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has urged churches in Nigeria to always put the nation in their prayers, especially in this period of Coronavirus pandemic.

Obi spoke on Tuesday through the chairman of his Coronavirus Palliatives Committee and former Chief of Staff, Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna.

The chairman, who was also the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Anambra State, called for the prayers while sharing items to some churches in Nigeria.

He told the churches that Obi wanted the items to reach the least privileged among Christians across the country.

The committee’s Vice Chairman, Chief Joe-Martin Uzodike, explained that the palliatives were divided into five components: reaching the poorest through the Church; provision of hospital items to selected hospitals, out of which 31 hospitals had benefitted across the country; reaching the poorest in all the towns in Anambra State through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) party structure.

He added that hospitals that got items would also benefit from monetary intervention soon. He said the final component would be the post-COVID-19 initiatives.

The churches that benefitted from Tuesday’s palliatives are: Seed of David, Redeemed Christian Church, Awka; Christ Holy Church International, Awka; Rhema Chapel, Umunya; St. Andrews’s Methodist Church, Onitsha and Messianic Faith Assembly Int’l, Nnewi.
