Cross River Assembly loses member

A member of Cross River State House of Assembly, representing Obudu State Constituency, Hon. Godwin Akwaji is dead.

He died on Thursday in Calabar after reportedly battling with an ailment for about two weeks.

Confirming the news, his aide, Mr. Elijah Ugani, wrote on Facebook: “You left with unfulfilled ambitions. You meant well for Obudu, only God knows. I can’t question you. Eternal Rest grant him”.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu, confirmed  the death has been brought to her notice and “if need be samples will be taken and sent for a test in other to confirm the cause of death.”

Akwaji was the second representative from constituency that died in two succeeding Legislative Assembly.

He was elected in 2019. He succeeded wife of late Stephen Ukpukpen who died in 2018.

Obudu constituency is  where Governor Ben Ayade hails from.
