ONE-TIME Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State Wale Edun has condoled with The Nation on the death of its Chief Cartoonist, Azeez Ozi Sanni.

Sanni died on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Edun, Chairman of Vintage Press Limited, publishers of The Nation, said: “Please accept my condolences on the loss of our Chief Cartoonist. May he rest in peace. Amen.”

The Nation Editorial Adviser Prof Tunji Dare also expressed his sympathies.

He said: “My condolences again on the sudden passing of our Chief Cartoonist, Azeez Sanni.

“His quiet, self-effacing manner belied the creativity that went into the making of cartoons that arrested the reader with their raw, evocative power.

“May his soul rest in peace, and may Allah abide with the family he left behind.”

A multiple award-winning cartoonist, the late Sanni was named Cartoonist of the Year at the Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) in 2008, 2009, 2010, a record three consecutive wins.

He also won the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) Best Editorial Cartoonist of the Year in 2009.
