Doctors in the Ondo State hospitals, under the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) and the National Association of Government General Medical & Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) have commenced indefinite strike action over alleged insensitivity of the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration.
Doctors at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), where COVID-19 patients are admitted for treatment, are expected to join the strike.
Also on Tuesday, nurses at the state-owned Mother and Child Hospital, Akure threatened to down tools over failure of the state government to carry out contact tracing of health workers who tested positive to COVID-19.

The State Secretary of NAGGMDP, Dr. Olasakinju Tunde, who spoke at a news conference in Akure, said the body has written over 15 communiques to the state government over burning, germane and mandatory issues affecting its members.
Tunde accused the government of deliberately failing to conclude negotiations on the erstwhile suspended Minimum Wage and Consequential Adjustments already enjoyed by the non-medical staff Since January 2020.
He said the inadequate supply of personal protective equipment (PPE), led to six of their members getting infected with Covid-19 and were currently on admission at the IDH.
The nurses, who carried out a peaceful protest on Tuesday morning, said the increasing rate of COVID-19 infections among health workers was worrisome.
