Marketing and public relations experts have said there is a need for a paradigm shift in the profession.

They spoke at a two days conference by the Young Marketing Professional Network (YMPN).

It was organised by former Marketing Director and Registrar of National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMM), Ayoade Adeyemi, with the theme: Marketing Beyond COVID-19.

The Registrar, Chartered Institute of Marketing Management, Canada, Grant Lee, noted that as the world of marketing witnesses changes, traditional advertising would shift to a predominantly virtual world of sales and product delivery.

A former President/Chairman Governing Council of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, Rotimi Oladele, said PR strategies must change to deal with the effects of COVID-19.

He said PR and marketing experts have to embrace technology more than ever before to promote brands, noting that social media has provided an alternative approach to sustainable relationships.  Chief Executive Officer, Business Plus, Ayeni Ekundayo, said market research is more important than ever in the COVID-19 era and beyond.   He said digital marketing will boost sales due to its reach, as against traditional marketing.
