The Commissioner of Health in Anambra State, Dr. Vincent Okpala, has said the level of stigmatisation against COVID-19 has reduced in the state even as he urged people of the state to volunteer themselves for tests to ensure adequate medical care. He also noted that being Coronavirus positive was not a death sentence.
Speaking during the monthly ministerial meeting on the Covid-19 pandemic, Okpala expressed joy over the gradual reduction in the level of stigmatisation among the populace.

He said, “Governor Obiano was the first governor who chose not to call a treatment centre an Isolation centre, rather a Protective Care centre. It was a bid to de-stigmatise the disease.”
“People should stop stigmatising those with the disease, government doesn’t support that. We however discovered that stigmatisation has drastically reduced. Covid-19 patients are now being accommodated,” he said.
