Hoodlums sack Delta police station

Hoodlums have attacked a police station in Orogun community, Ughelli North L.G.A carting away an AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition.

The Nation gathered the police have embarked on a house-to-house search in the community for weapons seized by the hoodlums.

A police constable was reportedly beaten to coma during the attack.

A source, who spoke to The Nation, said the police had earlier attempted to arrest a suspect whose mother aided his escape.

The source said the mother was arrested and detained at the station, stressing her son mobilised to the station threatening to deal with the officers.

A police source said: “The constable and inspector had gone to arrest a suspect but the suspect’s mother locked up her son who later escaped arrest.

“The mother was arrested and taken to the police station. The other children mobilised to the station and threatened to deal with the police for arrest their mother.”

Continuing, the source said: “In the night, the constable was alone in the station sleeping after the inspector and criminal record officer had gone home when the hoodlums pounced and carted away his weapon after beating him to stupor”.

Delta Police image maker, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya, who could not confirm the incident, promised to get details.

As at the time of filing this report, she was yet to respond to get back.
