The Federal Controller Works, Lagos, Olukayode Popola said  the  Marine bridge and road in Apapa area of Lagos will be ready by March, next year.

He stated this on Wednesday while on a tour of the bridge and roads constructed by the Federal Government in Lagos.

He said government decided to work on the bridges in Lagos to avoid collapse and also offer relief to the public.

He regretted that the Marine beach Bridge’s Bearings and Expansion joint has not been changed since the bridge was built over 30 years.

He said it is an accident waiting to happen if not quickly attended to as ‘dead load’ may impair the bridge endangering lives of users.

He said the contractor will lay asphalt by next month in the first section of the road.

On the percentage completion of the road, he said: “We have about 30 per cent completion on this particular road, but l also want to use the opportunity to advice the public on the need to be patient with our contractors. It is very disheartening that some miscreants removed the barriers at Eko bridge putting the lives of others in danger.

I will also ask that road users be mindful of the need to obey traffic laws. The Lagos State government and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), are working on several  alternative roads to curtail the effect of the planned closure of the 3rd mainland bridge,” he added.
