THE Federal Government has ordered the review of courier and logistics services for the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) to enable the agency operate more efficiently and productively.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami, who approved the review, said it was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s policy on ease of doing business.

In a statement in Abuja, NIPOST’S General Manager for Corporate Affairs, Franklin Alao, said the review, tagged: “New Guidelines Courier and Logistics Operations 2020,” was in line with Section 62 of NIPOST Act Cap. N 127, LFN 2004.

Alao said the guidelines would replace former regulations, which had been in existence since 2001.

He said: “The new regulation, which is a great improvement on the old one, is meant to rejig the logistics and courier ecosystem of the economy and significantly improve efficiency, make courier and logistics operations more effective, in line with President Buhari’s administration’s policy on ease of doing business.

“Erstwhile regulations largely focused on the big players in the courier industry with no clear-cut role and guidelines for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), particularly the upstarts, thereby creating laxity that caused proliferation of the industry.”
