Two weeks after The Nation broke the news of DreamWorks plan to find its way into the African market, the NBCUniversal station was launched on StarTimes. StarTimes and NBCUniversal International Networks (NBCUIN) recently announced the launch of DreamWorks channel, a 24-hour channel dedicated to kids and family entertainment exclusive to StarTimes.
DreamWorks joins other kids’ favourites like Toonami, Cbeebies, Nickelodeon, ST Kids, and Jimjam, among others showing at affordable and flexible subscription rates.
The DreamWorks channel went live on the StarTimes platform on Monday, August 1.
DreamWorks will be offering quality animation and storytelling series that include Dragons: Race To The Edge, All Hail King Julien, Turbo FAST, The Adventures Of Puss In Boots, In Dawn of the Croods, Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show, Noddy Toyland Detective!, Jingly Jangly Jungle, and Dinotrux.

Speaking about the upcoming launch, Lee Raftery, Managing Director, NBCUniversal International Networks, EMEA said: “Collaborating with StarTimes on bringing DreamWorks channel’s award-winning shows and beloved characters to Sub-Saharan Africa is a key milestone for our business. We look forward to bringing young viewers the DreamWorks experience, with its compelling slate of adventurous and imaginative animated series, all in one family destination.”
On her part, head of StarTimes Media Division, Lily Meng, said, “We are excited to bring DreamWorks to Africa. This launch demonstrates our continuous commitment to providing premium content to African families. And it comes at a very timely moment, while most kids and parents are staying home.”
