One of Nigeria’s leading jewelry merchants and Chief Executive Officer of BOZ Jewelry, Sherifat Mohammed has revealed the secret behind her thriving business.
The secret, according to her in a recent interview is not a recipe or talisman of sorts but a source from which she derives passion and driving force to go on to be the best in her chosen field of human endeavour.
In 2017, something unforgettable happened to her. She lost a son. It was at the same point she lost her job. This could have been a weight too heavy for many to bear but Sherifat Mohammed forged on to make her jewelry business even bigger, What she did was to immortalize the memory of the child who was her first child.
“Yes, that was where I got the name of my company from. The name of my company is BOZ derived from the name of my late first son; Benjamin Oshoneh Zekeri (BOZ). He passed away in 2017 in an unfortunate accident. Building my business around his name is to immortalize him. Thank God is a success,” she said.
Of course the memory of her son remains indelible but the Okene woman raised in Lagos knows that to run a business goes beyond some superstitious belief but hard lesson in giving your customers what they really want with the least hassle and to be in a business that is truly lucrative.
“I really cannot generalize or put a measurement to how lucrative it is as that could be subjective but one thing that is certain is, if you are able to provide customers with a memorable experience and not just a product or service irrespective of the business, profit will never be a problem and that’s what we strive to do,” she said.
After she was sacked by the British Council, she started her jewelry business in 2016, albeit unofficially. Her BOZ Jewelry Limited was officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in July 2019.
Sherifat Mohammed, has a BSc in Accounting from Bowen University, Iwo and a Masters degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Bradford in the UK.
She started working in 2010 with an engineering company called Global Ocean and moved to British Council in 2013 till September 2015. When she was unceremoniously dismissed her interest tuned to business. She has dealt in human hair, fabrics and even telephone accessories before finding a niche in the jewelry business which she has been doing since 2016.
Sherifat Mohammed is happily married and from Okene in Kogi State. She was born on September 26 1985 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Her BOZ Jewelry which is situated in Lekki has branches in Yaba, also in Lagos and the Federal Capital territory in Abuja.
