Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese in Anambra State Rev. Ndubisi Obi has said the church will use evangelism to check security challenges in Southeast.
The cleric said evangelism would be used to convert suspected bandits, herdsmen and migrants.
Obi addressed reporters yesterday in Nnewi ahead of its synod with the theme “You Shall be My Witnesses.
Okeke said the move followed reports of influx of strange elements in Igbo land.
He said: “The church is worried about the influx of strangers, and it would tame them with evangelism. The church will get many converts who will also be monitored to ensure they don’t go back to their world of violence…”
The cleric, who advised churches in other parts of Igbo land to search for migrants, hoped it would yield greater result than spending huge money on open air crusades.
“We know that some of them are on a mission but we should look for a way to disarm them through evangelism.
‘’The Igbo should be security conscious because of the people we see and their numerical strength.
Southeast governors should come up with formidable security arrangement for the zone,” he added.
