Taking care of your nails

By Kehinde Oluleye

it is not only your face, hands, neck or hair that should be treated with care and respect. Your toes and feet also deserve to be pampered. Washing your feet and toes every day is important for health and beauty reasons.

Cleaning your feet and toes once in a week is a good way to keep them healthy and strong. Experts advise that our feet should be scrubbed regularly with stones. Regular scrubbing is certain to give the feet smoothness that makes walking easier and comfortable.

Bose Akintoye of Lady BII Salon and Beauty World Lagos once said: “Giving your feet a well-deserved pampering, like deep cleaning, will always give them a classy, sexy look.  This advice is especially useful in this season of strap shoes, peep toes, flip flops and other open-ended slip-ons.

“Scrubbing stones are for the smoothening of the feet, while pedicure is for deep cleaning. Pedicure eradicates scaly peels and the dirt hiding under nails.

“You do not need to spend a fortune to get a good pedicure. You can actually do it at home,” Akintoye said.

To take care of your nails, note the following:

  • Boil water and when it is extremely hot, dilute it with some cold water.
  • Add some shampoo.
  • Soak your feet for thirty minutes.
  • Use blade to scrape the dead skin layer or outer skin layer.
  • Use a scrubbing stone.
  • Massage your feet with Vaseline.
  • Trim your nails and cuticles well.
  • Cones should be trimmed where necessary.
  • Once it rains and you are caught up in it, or in muddy water, wash your feet with antiseptic soap.
  • Use a nail file to smoothen the edges of your nail
