LEKKI Muslim Ummah (LEMU) has given N70 million to 317 Muslims.
At its yearly Zakat disbursement to the less privileged, widows, the needy, the sick and orphans, cash and working tools were given to beneficiaries.
Some of the items include 10 tricycles, 17 sewing machines, 28 deep freezers, one grinding machine, four generators, three computer laptops and one bike.
LEMU Zakat Committee Chairman Alhaji Yunus Olalekan Saliu said ”LEMU made remarkable progress in its Zakat collection, which soared to about N70 million compared to about N50 million last year, about 40 per cent,” he said.
Alhaji Saliu hailed the committee for screening applicants to determine genuine ones.

The beneficiaries, he said, were grouped into the five categories, in addition to those who received palliatives during the COVID -19 lockdown.
”It is a thing of joy that 223 beneficiaries will smile home today with various items. Many of the recipients will be delighted to go home with cash…” he said.
Saliu urged beneficiaries to make good use of what they received.
A beneficiary, Taofiqah Aworunse, who got an industrial sewing machine and N50,000, hailed LEMU.
“I am grateful to Allah and Lemu for giving me cash and a sewing machine. I pray to Allah to enrich the organisation and all the donors,” she said.
