I urge you graduands to take advantage of the skills learnt, leverage on the opportunity and turn it to a money making venture”
These were the words of the governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the graduation ceremony of year 2019 students from the 18 Skill Acquisition Centres held at Isheri Skill Acquisition Centre, Lagos.
According to Gov. Sanwo-Olu the ceremony is a celebration of another accomplishment as a government that is concerned about the eradication of poverty so that the people are self reliant and able to contribute their quota to the state’s socio-economic growth.
“The task of poverty eradication may seem daunting; but through skill acquisition, our people can enjoy economic emancipation”
”We’ll continue to commit human and financial resources to our vocational centres so that everyone who walks in is equipped with the requisite skills necessary to face the world and surmount economic challenge.” said Sanwo-Olu.
While commending the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for her transformative efforts, Gov. Sanwo-Olu urged graduating students to ensure that the money invested in them is not wasted.
In her goodwill message, wife of Lagos State governor Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat enjoined graduands to be the best in their chosen field by being prayerful, hardworking and package their products and services in a way that will attract customers.
Aside undergoing the 6-12 months training in the words of the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Cecelia Bolaji Dada, the graduands will be receiving the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) certificate which grants them a seamless transition into any of the Lagos State Technical Colleges of their choice for further training if they so wish.
“It is expected that the graduands will grow to become self employed, employers of labour, or even employees in organisations, by so doing they can cater for themselves and their families” said Dada.
Aside the free training and the free Start-Up packs given to the graduands by the state govt, a sum of N100,000 each was given to 18 best graduating students by Gov. Sanwo-Olu.
