17,000 Niger communities flooded, says SSG

NO fewer than 17,000 communities have been affected by flood in the Niger State the Secretary to the State Government Ahmed Matane has said.

In a statement in Minna, on Monday said the SSG made this known during an on-the-spot assessment of the flood situation in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mokwa, Lapai, Edati, Lavun, Shiroro, Munya and Wushishi LGAs were submerged by floods.

Matane also said that about 60,000 people in Mokwa LG had been affected by the floods which led to the collapse of houses and farmlands submerged.

He said the government had begun the distribution of 2, 400 assorted grains to communities affected in Mokwa to cushion the effects of the flood.
