The Southwestern University has appointed Dr. Jide Oluwajuyitan as a professor of Political Science and director of its Business School.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Oludimu, said Prof. Oluwajuyitan is coming to enrich the university with his wealth of experience acquired in the field as well as in the classroom in the last 40 years.
Oluwajuyitan was a Daily Times scholar at the University of Ife where he obtained his first degree in Political Science as well as a Federal Government scholar at the University of Lagos where he earned an MSc in Mass Communication and PhD in Comparative Politics with special focus on the role of the press in national integration in Africa.
He started his newspaper career at the Daily Times where he worked as Head of Research Unit and Deputy Advertisement Manager before joining The Guardian at its inception as the pioneer Advertisement Manager. At The Guardian, he rose to become the Executive Director of Marketing and Executive Consultant (Editorial and Marketing/Chief Operating Officer), before going on voluntary retirement to join the Board of Vintage Press Ltd, publishers of The Nation newspapers.

He later joined the academic staff of the University of Lagos where he was an associate lecturer for over 20 years. He was until his recent appointment with Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State.
As a public intellectual, Prof. Oluwajuyitan was a regular contributor to the Daily Times, Sunday Times and a columnist for Lagos Weekend and Times International, all within the Times Group. At The Guardian, he was a columnist, a member of the Editorial Board and the brain behind the now rested Guardian Opinion Polls, which he set up after a brief visit to the Observer of London. He has also maintained a weekly column in The Nation since 2010.
Oluwajuyitan has authored and co-authored over 20 books, including Nigeria Under the Generals, Democracy and Public Opinion in Nigeria, Nigeria: The Crisis of Nation Building and the Media 1900-2000, The Media and Divisive Issues of Nigeria Politics and Democracy and its Enemies among others in addition to scholarly articles in reputable local and international journals.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
