Men screened for prostate cancer

By Joseph Eshanokpe

Rotary Club of Somolu, in partnership with its District 9110 Centre, has taken its free screening and awareness to Fadeyi, Lagos State.

No fewer than 50 men got free screening, according to the club’s President Gabriel Irokanlulo.

He said there was a need for men over 40 to be screened for prostate cancer and enlargement of their glands, as early detection saves lives.

He noted that many men had died because of their ignorance.

He thanked the District Centre for its collaboration, adding that it hoped for such in future.

Irokanlulo thanked the St. Jude’s Anglican Church, Odo Olowo, Fadeyi for hosting the screening.

A representative of the Rotary International District 9110 Governor (Bola Oyebode), Olusola Benson, an Assistant Governor, said since the programme began in July, this over 500 men had benefited in Lagos alone.

He urged them to engage in regular exercises, and to eat a healthy diet, such as eating low fats, high fruits and vegetables.

According to him, pain/burning sensation when urinating, inability to urinate, increased urination especially at night, blood in urine, weak or interrupted stream/flow of urine and lower back/pelvis pains are symptoms of prostate cancer.
