ANAMBRA State Governor Willie Obiano has welcomed some soldiers deployed to the state to strengthen internal security.
General Officer Commanding of 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Lasisi Adegboye received the soldiers at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka.
Commander 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Col. Aliyu Lapai and other senior officers from the Division were present.
The officers are expected to work with those from the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) and their 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha.
Governor Obiano urged them to work harmoniously with the police, Navy and other security agencies in ensuring peace and unity in the state.
Speaking while receiving the Special Forces in Awka, the governor asked them to deploy their professionalism in fishing out the remaining troublemakers, who invaded and were still disturbing the peace in the state.
He said: “Anambra has zero-tolerance to kidnapping, robbery and other crimes. We are expecting stop and search, night patrols and other measures to curb crime in the state.

“We will provide every necessary logistics to achieve maximum and excellent results.”
A resident of Onitsha described the military’s presence as a morale booster.
He said: “The presence of the ‘Special Force’ officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, which no doubt is for the protection of lives and properties of the people, has boosted our confidence.
“Their presence has also gone a long way in filling the security gap created by the absence of the Police occasioned by the burning and looting of arms and ammunitions by the hoodlums.”
