A political pressure group, the Ekiti South Development Agenda, has said the South Senatorial District should produce Governor Kayode Fayemi’s successor in 2022.

It appealed to frontline politicians across party lines to ensure the zone produces the governor in the spirit of fairness and justice.

In a statement by the Coordinator, Afuye Idowu, the group said the agitation for Ekiti South to produce the governor was long overdue, adding that the district had been marginalised in the scheme of things.

It urged the Minister of Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, former governor Ayo Fayose, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Babafemi Ojudu to do everything within their power to uphold the zoning arrangement ahead of the 2022 governorship poll.

“From the available statistics, Ekiti North Senatorial  District and Ekiti Central Senatorial District have had the opportunities to produce governors on three occasions each. For instance, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, who governed Ekiti from 1999-2003 and Ayo Fayose 2003-2006 and later 2014-2018 are from the Central, while Segun Oni 2007-2010 and Kayode Fayemi 2010-2014 and later 2018 to date are from the North.

“It is our hope that in the interest of justice, equity and fairness, Ekiti South should be allowed to produce the next governor in 2022 without any controversy.

“We have begun consultations and we hope and believe that every stakeholder in the Ekiti project will key into this lofty agenda,” the body said.

The state government has sealed off five health facilities for allegedly operating below standard and engaging unqualified persons as workers.

Some of the facilities are Odunayo Medical Centre, Aye-Ekiti; City Medical Laboratory, Ado-Ekiti; Masterpiece Diagnostic Care, Ado-Ekiti; Abundant Grace Hospital, Ado Ekiti; and Good Heritage Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

Commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr. Oyebanji Filani shut the hospitals when he led his team on an impromptu visit to private hospitals.
