Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr Ahmed Apatira has disbursed N5 million cheques to the victims of the violence that trailed the #EndSARS protests.
The gesture was in line with the recommendations of the committee set up by the council.
The ‘EndSARS Aftermath Victims Compensation Committee’ was chaired by the council’s Vice Chairman, Pastor Gbenga Oyebode.
Pastor Oyebode, in his welcome address, said the beneficiaries are people whose shops, stores, workshop, and boutiques were looted by hoodlums.

While addressing the victims, Apatira lamented the destruction of the properties.
He said: “It is still unimaginable the wanton destruction of property, loss of lives, assault, arson and vandalism resulted from the hijacked #EndSARS protest by the hoodlums. As a government in the grassroot, we have to be responsive in assisting victims back to their feet”.
He thanked the committee for the painstaking assignment.
“After proper scrutiny of claims of affected victims by the committee, they were collated into categories; with highest recommended pay out of N250,000 and lowest beneficiary got cheques of N50,000,” he said.
According to him, the council has designed programmes to engage the people of the council.
All Progressives Congress (APC) Surulere Apex Leader, Chief David Adenekan hailed Apatira for the gesture.
He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the cheques.
