Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has told local government chairmen seeking reelections to show proofs why they deserve second terms in office.

The governor warned that that any council boss, who failed to show evidence of meaningful projects, should not bother seeking reelection.

Wike, who spoke while inaugurating remolded secretariat of the Ikwerre Local Government Area, on Tuesday said performance should be a precondition for reelection.

Wike, who was represented by the State Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Desmond Akawor, commended the Ikwere Chairman, Samuel Nwanosike, for his outstanding projects.

The governor endorsed Nwanosike, for a second term following his performance.

He said: “Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has made it clear that if you perform well, you will come back and if you did not perform, you won’t return.

“I, as the party chairman in the State, reiterate that if you did not perform as a chairman, don’t even think of buying form for a comeback.

“We want to work with those who can deliver, we don’t do rhetorics. There is no way a lion can produce a goat. We have a working governor who has transformed the landscape of Rivers State with projects.

“Other LGA Chairmen should present their project scorecard to save the face of the party in the state that is the only condition for a reelection.”

In his remarks, Nwanosike, said PDP was the only political party that could stop insecurity in the North-East and fix the economic challenges facing the nation.

He described local government authority as the most important tier of government, saying his administration constructed internal roads, markets, renovation of schools, police stations, among others.

Also a Chieftain of PDP in the State, Sergeant Awuse, recommended Nwanosike for a second term, following his transformation of the Local Government Secretariat within three years.

“I hope other LGA Chairmen present here will learn something, it is the same source from Abuja that every LGA is getting funds from, so why are they not performing?

“Performance is part of governance; any LGA without outstanding projects should not tell us they are unable because of funds. For this, Nwanosike derseves a second term because our governor is a man of performance and he will support performance.”
