The combined efforts of the residents of Okun-Ajah community and the Community Development Association, within Ajah-Lekki axis of the Eti-Osa Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Lagos, has led to the rehabilitation of some bad portions of the road within their neighbourhoods.
Specifically, the community carried out upgrades of the Mopo-Akinlade, Eleko road stretching to about 17kilometres both of which serve as alternative routes for motorists going to and fro Lagos Island.
Briefing journalists at the weekend, Chief Sikirulai Okanlawon Olukosi, who is the Baale Okun-Ajah, in the company of other elders, including the Community Secretary, Hon. Kabiru Adekanbi, Chairman of the CDA, Comrade Adekunle Odunuga, Youths Chairman, Comrade Yisa Noibi and Comrade Shaeed Olukosi, said the community resorted to self-help in order to ameliorate the sufferings of residents and visitors, especially motorists who have had to endure trauma on the bad spots.
According to the community head, “residents made sacrifices by raising the sum of N2.5million to upgrade the bad portions of the road at Mopo-Akinlade, Eleko down to Lafiaji road which is supposed to serve as alternate access road. “We cannot say the state government is not trying but then the continuous neglect of the bad portions of the road was a really a nightmare because it led to a lot of anguish for everybody,” Chief Olukosi maintained.
He was however, quick to add that the community was banking on support of the Lagos state government to pour asphalt and interlocking tiles so as to prolong the lifespan of the road against wear and tire.
