Ikpeazu suspends chief of staff

Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has suspended his Chief of Staff Anthony Agbazuere.

A statement on Sunday by Secretary to the State Government Chris Ezem said Permanent Secretary of the Government House, Alozie Odoemelam, will act in the office until further notice.

No reason was given for Agbazuere’s suspension, but reports said it might not be unconnected with the recent invitation of Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, to the State House.

A video which trended on social media at the weekend showed Agbazuere spraying money on the Onitsha-based prophet in his office, an action many said was undeserving of a public office holder.

The statement reads: “Governor Ikpeazu has directed the suspension of his Chief of Staff, Dr Anthony Agbazuere. Permanent Secretary of the Government House, Alozie Odoemelam, will act as such until further notice.”

Ikpeazu will present the 2021 appropriation bill today to the House of Assembly.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, said the budget will be presented at the Main Chambers of the Assembly at 10am.
