IMO State will shut illegal operators in the lotteries, pools and sports betting industry from next month, it has been learnt.

Director-General of the Imo State Gaming Board Victor Nwaobia, at a stakeholders’ meeting on Sunday, said no operator would be allowed to function without permit from January.

According to him, the board would begin the process to harmonise all fees and collectors from government agencies. He urged the operators to work with the board to achieve the government’s objectives of ensuring a proper regulatory framework, resolve challenges in the industry, harmonise schedule of fees and payment, among others.

Nwaobia urged the operators to ensure that payments for permits, taxes and other fees were made through Treasurer Single Account (TSA).
