FEDERAL Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Aliyu has hailed the appointment of Prof Olayemi Akinwumi, as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University- Lokoja.
Dr Aliyu noted that the appointment was indeed a testimony to Akinwumi’s scholarship in African History.
She also praised the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, for the roles they played in the appointment of Akinwunmi as the first indigenous Vice-Chancellor of Federal University- Lokoja.

In a statement on Sunday by her Special Assistant, Media, Austine Elemue, the minister described the appointment of Akinwumi as a blessing to the state, stressing that the erudite scholar who was until his new appointment, a Professor of African History and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of Nasarawa State University- Keffi would bring to bear his wealth of academic and administrative experiences in charting a new course for the institution.
She said Akinwumi’s quest for knowledge and perfection would be an added advantage to the university.
While celebrating with the people of Kogi State over the appointment, she, however, called on the university community to rise to the occasion by dedicating themselves to positively turning around the fortunes of the institution.
