Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola said yesterday that the recruitment of teachers would be merit-driven.
He gave the assurance in his speech during the inauguration and distribution of educational materials, sports equipment and other materials to pupils with special needs in primary and junior secondary schools, at the warehouse of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Oyetola said the initiative of SUBEB to make provision for schools across the state is a continuation of his administration’s efforts in building the capacity of young ones and posterity for a strong and prosperous state.
He said: “We have followed this up by responding and bridging the dearth of manpower in the sector through the commencement of the recruitment process for the appointment of more teachers.”
“Soon, applicants will sit for an aptitude test. To show our commitments to a fair process, we have made it a wholly merit-driven process because we know that only the best is good for our pupils and our state.”
SUBEB Chairman Israel Famurewa said the distribution of instructional materials, sports materials and materials for special needs is to prioritise teaching and learning in schools and make the pupils in the School for Special Needs to have a sense of belonging.
