The Managing Director, North East Development Commission (NEDC) Mohammed Alkali has lamented the 2021 N45bn to the commission cannot fund its projects.
The MD, who spoke in Damaturu at the graduation ceremony of 134 ICT trainees by the NEDC, told reporters the money was too small to meet the huge infrastructural deficit in the region caused by the Boko Haram crisis.
“The simple answer to that question is no. The budgetary allocation for the commission in 2021 is not enough,” the NEDC boss said.
Speaking on other creative ways the commission could use to raise money for her projects, Alkali said: “We are going to look around other creative and ingenious ways that will also attract funds to the commission.
“But still we will continue to appeal from the Federal Government for more support to enable us meet the challenges of infrastructural deficit in the region.
“You are aware of the destruction that the insurgency has caused and the way it has taken us backward as a people and as a region.
“We will look for collaboration from donor agencies and the support of our governors in the region has also been encouraging thus far,” the NEDC boss said.
The Nation recalled North East Governors have also complained about the meagre budgetary allocation to the commission for 2021.
