Former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Victor Kassim Oyofo, at the weekend, called for a change of attitude among Nigerians, warning that the country is currently in God’s purification process that will end up wiping out all evil-doers.

Oyofo, who represented Edo North Senatorial District, from 1999 to 2007, foresaw that Abuja, the federal capital territory, would soon be hit by a natural disaster, in which all bad elements in the capital city would fall victims.

The septuagenarian, a former National Leader of the Grail Movement in Nigeria, told our correspondent, “Nigeria, like every other place in the world, is now standing in the world judgement; otherwise called the last judgment.

“A purification process would be carried out soon by nature, not just by the people.

“Let me say this: there is going to be a great rain that will fall in Nigeria, in Abuja in particular; which will last for 10 days and 10 nights. And by the time that rain gets through with Abuja, what is left will be pure.

“Everybody who has a hand in what is wrong; whether you do it in private or in public, will be washed away, along with what he acquired. It will be so devastating that it will be like an eyesore, with the total destruction.”

The former lawmaker added that the incident would be the beginning of a new Nigeria, and that Abuja, after the great deluge, would have its name changed to ‘The City of Light’.

Besides, he said Abuja’s status would be enhanced, as it would be rebuilt with resources contributed by various countries of the world.

According to him, the ongoing reign of terror in the country, such as insurgencies, banditry, kidnapping and the like, are only the initial signs of “the purification” that would soon take place.

He deplored the level of corruption across the board in Nigeria, saying, “The only Nigerian that is not corrupt today is the one without opportunity”.

Oyofo also envisioned that Nigeria would still be restructured along zonal lines, describing the present formation as “a unitary government that is not even honest.”

He noted, however, that Nigeria would not break as current agitations by some ethnic groups for secession would fizzle out.

He also said, “State Police is a necessity as Nigeria is under-policed.

“The federal police have been skewed, made to mean something else, as the police service is a neighborhood thing.”

The elder statesman similarly took a swipe at the government’s inability to rein in the insurgents after so many votes from the budget to security.

“How can the Army not be able to flush out insurgents from Sambisa Forest? The only reason is that they are corrupt.

“Corruption is playing its own part in the military setup. You will hear stories that they (insurgents) have superior weapons.

“Why should a legitimate government not be able to buy superior weapons and criminals are buying,” he queried.
