Niger announces total ban of commercial motorcycles

Niger has announced total ban of commercial motorcycles to curb insecurity in the State.

Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso announced this on Wednesday.

Ketso said the ban takes effect from Thursday, June 3, 2021.

He said only private motorcycles are allowed to operate with restriction from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am.

The Deputy Governor said the Okada Riders Association has been informed, vowing the new ban will be implemented to the latter.

Ketso also called on Emirs, District Heads and village heads to begin profiling new residents in their communities.

He said they are also to liaise with local government chairmen, pointing out there is utmost need for all authorities and residents to be security sensitive.

On the Tegina Islamiyya Children, the Deputy Governor said they are still negotiating with the bandits but refused to state the level of negotiation.
