Ooni lauds Oyetola, seeks govt intervention on Ife roads

THE Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi yesterday threw his weight behind the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State saying, “Ile-Ife is not enemy of the government.”

The monarch disclosed this at the 2021 Zenith Colloquium tagged, “Ife Wii: Selected Wits, Axioms, Idioms, Proverbs and Epigrams in Ife Dialect” organised by Ife Zenith Club held at Ife City Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife Osun State urging Governor Oyetola to see to the plights of Ile-Ife deplorable roads and ensure they are rehabilitated.

Oba Ogunwusi who was represented by the Alara of Araoodaye, Oba Segun Layade in his address, said, “Ile-Ife is not an enemy of the government, we are friends of Governor Oyetola, we deserve good things. The government inaugurated 8.1KM road at Ipetu, our roads need attention by rehabilitating them.”

Speaking about the event, Deputy Chief of Ife Zenith club, Justice Yinka Afolabi, explained that they discovered Ife is losing touch with the forebearers in terms of language, customs, tradition and culture.

“Ile-Ife was originally known for excellence and great civilization. The Europeans acknowledged this fact but what we have now is a remnant of that heritage. That is why we are reviving it today.”

The guest speaker, Professor Adisa Ogunfolakan, Director of Natural History Museum from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, urged parents to seek more knowledge about the culture, language and tradition of Ile-Ife and teach their children.
