Abducted husband of a pregnant woman allegedly shot dead by suspected herders in Offa, Offa local government of Kwara state has regained freedom.
The Nation gathered he was freed after payment of N2million. But this could not be independently verified.
Lukman Ibrahim, an Offa-based telephone dealer, was abducted by gunmen in the ancient town last Saturday.
His pregnant wife was shot dead during the incident.
Family sources said the phone dealer was released by his abductors on Tuesday around 7.30 pm after payment of ransom.
The source said: “Lukman was picked up at about 7.30pm by the family representative who went to drop the money demanded at a designated location as instructed by the kidnappers.
“Although they demanded for N30 million, we could only raise a little above N2million. We pleaded with them that we were unable to raise more money which they initially rejected. We continued to beg them and later, they told us to drop the money at a place.
“They warned us not to involve the police or any security personnel, they said that if they noticed that we brought Policemen, they will kill Lukman and the life of members of the family would be in danger,” he said.
Kwara Police spokesman Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the release but said the Command did not know anything about the payment of ransom.
